Culture Methods

  • Extensive/Traditional Pond Culture: Low input, rely on natural productivity
  • Semi-Intensive Pond Culture: Fertilization + supplemental feeding (tilled ponds)
  • Pen/Enclosure Culture: Hapas or pens in coastal lagoons and estuaries
  • Integrated Multi-Trophic: Co-culture with seaweeds, shrimp or mullets to improve efficiency

Production Cycle

Post-Harvest Processing

  1. Harvest by seine or seine-net draining
  2. Immediate chilling or icing on-board/shore
  3. Grading and gutting for fresh markets
  4. Value-add: smoked milkfish, dried/salted products, fillets
